Ron Wilkinson was born in Ipswich, Suffolk, England in 1948.
After training, he became a freelance graphic designer, mural artist and pottery technician for Dan Arbied(Central School of Art). He later became an art teacher.
A serious illness in 2002 forced him to retire.
He moved to France in 2004.
In 2007 he moved to the Isle of Man.
He now, works from his home in The Isle Of Man.
His earlier work falls into two main categories; landscape and abstracted nature.
The landscapes have an element of abstraction and are concerned with light effects on cloud and especially the light at dawn and dusk. They show the influence of Bikaner paintings.
The abstracted conglomerates of nature and artifact works portray the interaction between the industrial, human and natural interface. These works are decorative, full of colour and yet within them, there are precise and often 'dark' elements, with engineering qualities.
His more recent work has been devoted entirely to portraits. These tend to have a life theme pertaining to the sitter and consequently contain symbolism related the subject's experiences....
