  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Erik Pevernagie - WORK OF ERIK PEVERNAGIE : BRIDGING GAPS THROUGH ART Art, by its creative power, unleashes positive energy, closer relations between individuals and peoples. Through art people meet and get to know each other. By its very nature, art is universal and makes it easier to cross frontiers and barriers. It helps to forget alienations. Herald Tribune wrote quite rightly: " Bridging the gaps between generations, social strata and nationalities is a tricky business. However Erik Pevernagie may have hit upon a workable formula to ease the alienation. " The paintings of Pevernagie can be situated in this frame. The main theme in his work is man in his environment. The painter scans people and situations, juggles with colours and provokes emotions. In the first place Erik Pevernagie wants to state his alliance with society and the world at large. He wants to give evidence of the elements which do strike him in daily life. In order to stress this evidence he uses slogans, outcries, certain " truths " in his paintings like graffiti. His characters are expecting, looking forward, escaping, in quest of alternatives. Imagination is essential if we want to save our lives. The artist wants to give evidence on many levels. Reality is ...

Niels Ellmoos - Artist Statement I work in most two dimensional mediums (painting, drawing, computer art as well as three dimensional mediums (including video installation, and sculptural ceramics). In the two dimensional works I consider the work to be'spiritual' in nature as often the images manifest through a combination of meditation and sub-conscious energy. Often I begin the process of creativity not knowing what the image is going to end up looking like. The first lines and marks can resemble a child's drawing, generally loose in structure. As the work progresses and the energy builds in a stream of consciousness - an image which is recognisable emerges. To date , landscape and variations of landscapes are the resultant images although spiritual figures have appeared during the process. ...

Ved Prakash Bhardwaj - Is it true that an abstract painting has no reference to any figurative reality? I don't think like that. I believe that there is nothing abstract in a painting because every abstraction is based on figures. Abstract forms, which was generally adopted by artists comes from nature and nature has several fixed forms, which used in abstract paintings. In my works, I used parts of human body as a symbol of land or nature. I am not a narrator, so I try to paint in a different way, because I am re-creator, original creator is god or nature, whatever you say. I believe that god or nature is greatest creator and as a human being, we can only try to re-create whatever we see in our life. As an abstract painter, I try to simplify or reduced the real forms. In that process I get some unaccepted result, and I think that was not my creation, that was god's creation. ved prakash bhardwaj...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Ric Hall And Ron Schmitt - These pastel paintings are collaborative work by artists Ric Hall and Ron Schmitt. Ric and Ron work simultaneously, standing next to one another. They start each piece with no conscious plan as to what the final result will be. Rather, they rely on spontaneous collaboration in the moment to allow the images to develop. Working literally over and around each other, both artists develop all areas of the image. They work with little verbal discussion or debate, allowing their strokes to do the talking. At various points in the process they apply an anhydrous alcohol fixative to keep the pigment from shifting and ready it for the next layer of color. Ric and Ron have been painting using this method for over 25 years, even as their technique and perspectives have matured....

D Loren Champlin - D. Loren Champlin currently resides in the highlands of Maine with his loving spouse and son. Champlin showed an interest in drawing very early in life. Champlin has been painting professionally since 1992. Early works were predominately done in pastels. After about 1997, he now works predominately in oils, yet the youthful spirit of his work remains the same. Champlin boldly uses colour and line to express his artistic vision. The colour is weaved together to form a tapestry. Bold lines give a feeling of motion and energy. His works are influenced by the passion and energy of life. Painting is the symphysis between artist and subject - the subject and the artist transcends a part of themselves to the painting creating a perfect union. It is a butterfly and the flower, the butterfly paints the flower flowing on the wind to the next to create new life - the miracle of pollenation. Painting is a way of thought. There are no words really to describe the process as thoughts are emotions and hues and shapes. It is calculated chaos resulting in harmony. Painting is to capture the spirit as if one could take a breath of wind, hold it and give...

Katherine Taylorgreen - I am a self taught artist, working primarily in pastel. The world of animals and nature is my passion. The power and grace of an arabian hourse, the cool level stare of a wolf, the exuberance of puppies at play, all move me as other subjects haven't. I strive to portray these emotions to the viewer and give them a glimpse into the animal's soul....

Marisa Reve - "I do not do copies or reproductions of my artwork. All my pieces are unique. Those who purchase my paintings are assured that nobody else will have the same piece." "I have a lot of passion in my colors and my paintings show my emotions." Marisa Ventura was born in Angola in 1969. In 1975 the family moved to Lisbon, Portugal, where she currently resides. At an early age her talent was evident. Although her career in business administration and family obligations occupied most of her time, she never gave up on her dream. She has enrolled in painting classes and is gradually developing her own unique style. Marisa combines a wonderful sense of color, line and texture in her depictions of life. ...
