  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Richard Beckholt - My artwork is very unique.I have spent most of my life developing the language of my work and continue to process and refine the course I have chosen. I work very hard to bring all the drama in color and design that I can possibly muster while remaining true to my initial concepts.I will not allow myself to slip into the realm of decorative art for the sake of sales. My art is honest and straight from my heart. Those collecting my works sense the emotions expressed within the stark images....

Carlos Pereira Da Silva - Carlos Pereira da Silva began painting about 1986 but the first works were presented for the first time in public exhibitions, in 1991. Since then he continuously participate in group and individual art exhibitions. We can count 60 by now. Most of his works belong to private collections in Portugal, Germany, Swiss, Denmark, Belgium, France, USA. C. Pereira da Silva was invited by the Mayor of the city of Setubal to participate on the construction and painting of a giant mural to commemorate the 200Th year of the death of the great portuguese poet, Bocage. This work was exhibited in 2005. He also contributed, in 2007, with several illustrations to the hand writing version of the most important book ever written in portuguese language "Os Lusiadas" by Luis de Camoes, to the museum of the presidency of the Portuguese Republic. Dolphin Parade 2012: Painting 2 of the 20 Dolphins exhibited near the Dock of Fishermen- Setubal; International Surrealism Now (2012). ...

Carole Wilson - The inspiration for my images comes from meditation, dreams, and hypnogogic imagery; creating a healing, helpful presence wherever the art is placed is my goal. To that end, my intention is to create art that is visually stimulating, both overtly and on a subtle energetic level. As colors and shapes affect mood in powerful ways, I seek to evoke a joyful, uplifting response in the viewer. There is an underlying pure and positive force that can be expressed through the visual medium of painting, that is at once mysterious and yet accessible to human consciousness. Channeling this energy through paint and canvas is the purpose behind my work....

Maria Teresa Fernandes - Admiring Teresa's paintings we are touched by her pictorial sensitivity. Difficult task in light colors (volume and transparencies on a clear basis). Few do it due to the required dedication with pallete knife(no brush). It's painting consacrated by the love to paint. Radha Abramo(Renowned art critique)comments at Solo Exhibition Catalog at SESC Paulista in June 84 -( sent at request and reproduced in one of the pages of this site). ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Iana Sophia - In my work I strive to create a fusion of traditional and experimental, figurative and abstract visions to arrive at a texture, an implication of a landscape, where the familiar dissolves into mostly impressionistic colour fields or configurations with physical, emotional or even cosmic ramifications. Iana Sophias art pulsates between the seen and envisioned, the figurative and abstract. Inspired by a mystical sensitivity and an appreciation of nature, these paintings draw the viewer into a place of contemplation, where the secrets of the work begin to unfold.A(c) DLS ...

Patrick Lynch - Inspired by the English Pre-Raphaelites and the writings of late Victorian Kentucky poets Madison J. Cawein and Robert Burns Wilson, my paintings are of the eternal human quest for love set in a lost Gothic world inhabited primarily by women who are caught in the contradictions of their dreams and how they have found their world to actually be. Many of the inhabitants are haunted, but not by supernatural forces. When ghosts appear, they are not always the spirits of lost loved ones, more often, they are the ghosts of an idea or dream-for example, the idea that one can find a lifelong and true love or of that one person who simply cannot be forgotten. The women who spread their wings are not angels in the expected sense; their wings are a manifestation of the forces that shape their lives. Men are sometimes present in my images, often in an embrace of acceptance and partnership as they share the immutable longing for love. At other times, men are found at that pivotal moment of undesired separation or are reaching out to comfort those in pain. But not every moment is one of tragic endings. There are moments ...

Jan Skorb - I think that it is an expression of soul searching and times of reflection.Sometimes leaving my thoughts and go where I've never been before.I'm fascinated by the world of the human heart and soul.Searching for gates that need to be opened, with a key,or without it.Sometimes one can open them easily, because they were opened, but one has to reach them first. That's why I'm always on my way....

Since them she manages to combine art restauration works along with painting, digital photography, imprints and making glass works. She has taken vitral classes with professor Aldo Canales in University of Costa Rica, as well as art restauration in La Habana- Cuba, Firenze-Italy and in Costa Rica. Patsy Mair - PATSY MAIR I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, W.I., and studied Painting as an adult beginning seriously in the 1970s , tutored by Gorge Rodney, one of Jamaica's master artists. My early working background was in Education and Training. As a graduate teacher I taught History, Spanish at High School level and Communication Skills at College Level. Then later I specialised in Training and Development of staff at the workplace. During those years I used my week ends to develop my interest in Painting. While growing in the techniques of oil, acrylic and pastel paintings I exhibited in solo, joint and group shows in Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago and won Bronze Medals in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission National Fine Art Competitions among other awards. More recently I participate regularly in exhibitions and am a member of the Jamaica Guild of Artists. My inspiration for my work comes from experiences of what I know and feel. With wide interests and having worked for many years as a volunteer in the cause of abused women I focus on strengths and hopes, happiness and peace. I try to express the vitality of life as I see it, through the medium ...

Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

Sue Jacobsen - My "artist's eye" seeks both the extraordinary and the ordinarily-overlooked moments in nature, and presents them in a way that allows the viewer to see what I've seen--and loved enough to want to share it. My regional landscapes, painted in oil, capture the rural flavor of the Wood River Valley in Idaho where I've lived and worked for over 30 years. Previously, California coastal areas were my genre. My love of the ocean and its awesome infinity is equaled in the grandeur and peace of the nearby mountains --again, infinite subjects for my paintings. Just as my professional training in graphic design at Art Center School in Los Angeles served me well when I turned my creative skills to easel painting, this then enabled me to move with ease and enthusiasm when sculpture'found me', and I learned to see with new eyes--in 3 dimensions now! My sculptures are figurative, of people or animals, and I seem to have special ability to capture the likeness and personality of my subjects. While I consider myself to be primarily self-taught, I continue to seek out other professional painters and sculptors whose work I admire, with...

Sven Froekjaer Jensen - To build a bridge between different worlds of expression, to span the abyss between the diversity of human minds, to reach out for the sublime, that is my challenge. Therefore I have to maneuver in a battlefield between old techniques and the new expressions of our time. That means to work in two directions all the time, one way from the old masters of the 19th century especially the drawing skills of the so called Copenhagen school with a very profound technical base, and the other way a freedom of expression, that is the only highway to the description of our time and the dreams and goals of present life. One could express it in another way saying, that I make modern myths in my fabulating paintings. But on the other hand the technical skills acquired from the drawing exercises are a necessity for getting the freedom that makes the fabulations possible. By creating the nonverbal myths on my canvasses I hope to reach the onlooker in a way that brings our minds together so we can walk the paths of understanding - dreaming the very old dreams of humanity. Therefore I work very intensely with drawings of the human and...

Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...
