My Favorite Art Books

I'm sitting here next to a stack of art books that I'm calling, "My Favorite
Art Books." Because art book publishing is in a reported state of crises, I
thought that I would do my little part to help out. When I visit national
bookstore chains, it's quite unsettling to discover that the art and
architecture book sections are pushed WAY to the back of the building. Of
course, that has its advantages if you seek solitude as I do.

While I believe most art books suffer from "stuffy academia," they're the
closest things that many people will ever come to seeing true art. They
deserve our support. Anyway, here's a quick list of my favorites ... in no
particular order. I'm sure you have your own choices.

A New Tool

This time I want to try something different using a tool absolutearts.com recently put at our disposal. While I was looking through old footage to create short videos to place in my portfolio I came up with a few ideas for future projects involving video, namely, it could be interesting to present a blog on video or use video as the actual blog and then respond to the comments in the usual way. But would it work? Im pretty sure that it can come in handy to liven things up a bit now and then though never as a full substitute for text. I like text. I have no doubts that aa will one day manage to have the clip play directly on this page and allow us to respond without too much moving about, but for now Id ask you to click here, watch the video at the top of the selection list in my portfolio, the one titled junglewalk.jungletalk, and then return to post your comment. The theme of this blog is obviously not the merit of my video but the idea, not totally new, that nowadays the artist has many tools at his disposal to become independent and have a go at a living in spite of the odds. Even way-out in the jungle where I was back then, aa allowed me to keep a record of my activity as an artist, and I am more and more convinced that keeping as rich a record as possible of our work and interventions is an important thing to invest time in. I hope this works and that we can discuss this further. By the way, the clip should run for 3.45 min. View The Video Blog Here

Artist’s Biographies:

If you haven’t yet accomplished enough to make for an impressive resume, you can simply write a bio, which can often be a mild combination of the two. Below I’ve listed a typical bio, this for a woman in my gallery–Kim Casebeer. Due to her relative youth, Kim’s accomplishments don’t yet rank with those of my older artists, but I know in time they will. For now though she simply needs a bio that reflects her skill, and uniqueness, as a painter. Accomplishments of greater significance will come later.

BOMBS AWAY IN BEAN-TOWN

Is this the face of the new Terrorist?

The recent security hysteria in Boston over some cute blinking LED icons for an advertising gimmick to market the TBS Cartoon Network show “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” has made Bean-town a laughing stock. The word hysteria and hysterical come from the same root and fit together well in this case. The authorities overreacted to the guerilla ad campaign grabbing headline news on CNN and MSNBC for nearly the entire day. As soon as I saw the signage in question I knew exactly what it was. And I was watching on TV. They surely could have figured it out standing right next to them. Anyone with a teeny little tech savvy would be able to see in moment they were not a danger. To argue any differently is ludicrous. How could the bomb squad make such a stupid mistake? Those guys know what it takes to make a bomb. And although there may have been a circuit board included in the little icons there certainly wasn’t much else that made it a bomb.

Lights/Camera/Action - Start the Party!

Phew!! Its been the busiest season ever. Ive never
done so much partying in my life. At least that my
memory banks can remind me of.

The festivities started in November when I went to
Nashville for a special project for Hewlett Packard.
New printers being released and I was asked to kick
the tires, and test them out. - Fabulous.

After the first sign of a Christmas tree November 15th,
I knew the holiday season was upon us. I just didnt know
that Christmas would last for two and a half months! - ))))

In Miami everyone awaits the arrival of ART BASEL.
Possibly the biggest art event to take place anywhere in
the world these days. ART BASEL is no long just a fair at
the convention center but takes over the entire City of Miami
and there is art everywhere. Hotels, banks, raw spaces,
condominium penthouses, private islands, boat rides...You
name it, theres a place to showcase art. For the last 3 years,
Ive thrown a party to celebrate ART BASEL and this past
year was no exception. My party was at MANSION this year
and there had to be at least 4,000 people. My work was
projected onto the giant screens of the club everywhere.
