02/04/2007: "Lights/Camera/Action - Start the Party!"
Phew!! Its been the busiest season ever. Ive never
done so much partying in my life. At least that my
memory banks can remind me of.
The festivities started in November when I went to
Nashville for a special project for Hewlett Packard.
New printers being released and I was asked to kick
the tires, and test them out. - Fabulous.
After the first sign of a Christmas tree November 15th,
I knew the holiday season was upon us. I just didnt know
that Christmas would last for two and a half months! - ))))
In Miami everyone awaits the arrival of ART BASEL.
Possibly the biggest art event to take place anywhere in
the world these days. ART BASEL is no long just a fair at
the convention center but takes over the entire City of Miami
and there is art everywhere. Hotels, banks, raw spaces,
condominium penthouses, private islands, boat rides...You
name it, theres a place to showcase art. For the last 3 years,
Ive thrown a party to celebrate ART BASEL and this past
year was no exception. My party was at MANSION this year
and there had to be at least 4,000 people. My work was
projected onto the giant screens of the club everywhere.

Nothing wrong with having a good time at receptions and other art events. It is a good time to talk with friends and buyers old and new, and no, the discussion does not have to be just about art. Some drinks, some food, some laughter. People (not me) like to get dressed up and make a party of the event and maybe we should more often.
I think the issue here, and maybe I am missing something, is that this blog seems a bit superfiial. But maybe the writer was still feeling the after effects of the party when he wrote this.

Tom, you are right, James has a point. I have great fun at the studio and meeting and working together with other artists and like-minded folks, sharing ideas, exchanging experiences from trips or encounters with other artists - fun is important! I sometimes go to parties, dance, have a drink... but i can't afford to do that too often, it bites into my budget and into my energy level and disrupts my discipline way beyond the time i can afford to regain the focus. I have a question though, regarding the bourgeois statement he makes. What is more bourgeois, artists discussing art - at whatever level they feel they have to - or artists willingly loosing their time in a succession of events where nobody gives a s#*+ about the artist and the intellectual gibberish more than often leaves you wondering why you went there in the first place? I agree with you, i'd like to hear Vick's opinion on this.

I'm really surprised Vick hasn't chimed in on this blog.
James makes a point here people... think about it.

Gosh. I feel left out. I'm so buisy making art , painting and writing poetry, shortstories, taking photographs, hammering the hell out of Photoshop that I have completely forgotten to party.Maybe that's why i'm never invited!

Silicone Bimbos are people too.

I like photos. They show a lot about the current art community and their clients. What is more important the artwork or the "dressed" up clients at an opening!!! Why not have fun, or is art a bourgois event now where everyone has to focus on the work and hold intellectual discussions?

A, just the way i was brought up, i guess. Can't get myself to be downright dismissive.

I have to agree with the rest here. However, I find it very curious as to why Jose and Mark feel they have to apologize for writing what they wrote.

So you got your picture taken with a lot of silicone bimbos. What does that have to do with art?

Oops, I think I may have been redirected to the wrong site. Forgive my sarcasm Lawrence, but aside from the information that you partied, that Art Basel happened [which, by the way, i think most of us knew], and that you continue to party, there is very little for us to discuss. Forgive me again, but is it your Artwork - I take it to be video or multi media for you to mention it being projected - you want to share with us, or your conquests? I think I would have something more positive to say if I had at least catched a glimpse of one of the projections. As for what you show us, it presents nothing new or out of the ordinary. Quite the opposite. Sorry.

At the risk of sounding rude or uncivil, as we have been discussing in the last blogs, I have to say something about this last blog:
SO WHAT AND WHO CARES.
sorry.
