09/07/2005: "CALL FOR ARTISTS and Authors." by Hyacinthe Baron

The ART AND HUMAN NATURE COLLECTION, Literary and Art Book from Baron Gallery and the Baron Conservancy. A NEW SHOWCASE FOR ARTISTS and AUTHORS.

Thank you for the overwhelming response to our call for artists, poets and authors for our showcase exhibition in print as a published book and as a virtual gallery exhibit on our CREATIVITY BANK on www.barongallery.com.

It is always a wonderful thing to find a medium such as absolutearts to reach out.

If you have visited our site ( http://www.barongallery.com ) you will note that it is becoming an archive of my works and a chronicle of my career since I made the conscious decision almost 50 years ago to become an artist. It was outlandish in those days. There was no such creature as a woman and an artist.

I had to find another voice because mine could not utter the words "buy my art" and I would break into tears if a gallery owner said anything negative about my work.

I wanted all my energy to go into the creation of my art. And when a piece was finished for it to be shown and well received.

I was lucky, I found a husband who devoted his life to art and furthering my career and became my voice and my agent and who was not afraid to say to potential collectors; "BUY IT. Pay it out if necessary. We trust your karma. Take the work home with you." Such purchases often became a lifestyle. One girl fell in love with one of my paintings. She refused to marry her fiance if he refused to buy it for her. She got married had children and for years every month a check came. The painting was a part of their life and her collection.

There are many similar stories. In fact each piece sold over the past 45 years has a story. Always it seemed there was some greater plan that led art work and collector to come together.

We always maintained galleries across the country to showcase my art.

Prints, lithographic numbered editions, etchings, these were the exception because they became products and went their way. I cannot tell you how many of the owners of my works contact me now. Print editions, reproductions, published books, all are viable ways of getting the work out there.

I never knew for instance that many of my black and white lithos were atrociously brushed with watercolor by some dealers, not until they show up on ebay or someone sends me an email.

As I stated previously and commented to Walt and Andrew, Rodin sent postcards of his newest works all over the world in the days prior to the internet.

I urge you to pay attention to alternate opportunities to open new doors and to expose your works in as many venues as possible.

Contributing to a collection that will be published is a way to permanently expose your creations and to add to your archival record.

Above all it opens another means of creating a dialogue with other artists, art lovers, buyers and collectors.
