08/26/2005: "Art and Human Nature Collection"

Art and Human Nature Collection is a Literary and Art Book publication concept that provides an excellent other opportunity to archive an individual artist's and writer's works. In addition to internet portfolios and web sites, such a book remains available to the public and essentially functions as a portable and permanent exhibition and showcase. We are excited about the possibilities of a published book collection as a different venue for exposure and promotion of artistic and written works; A sort of catalogue of a virtual exhibition in which the artist displays and the writer publishes.

Validation usually comes through articles and notice in the media and representation by normal channels, galleries and museums. As an artist and/or writer, being published in a book that is available outside of the usual atmosphere, functions in many ways as a gallery does. In other words, it serves to put a certain professional distance between the artist and the buyer.

As artists we seek ways of reaching out to the public so they can view our creations. There has been much discussion lately about how and where to reach the buyers. This annual book of collected works provides an excellent means to contact collectors and revive interest in your works, or give as a gift to buyers at point of purchase. Drop one off at a gallery you are hoping to have represent you and don't forget to sign the book. Being published remains a resume credit. Announce it on your own website and in your local media.

The emphasis here is that often if we go outside the box we achieve more.

One of the best places that sold record numbers of paintings was a fancy French Restaurant in Scarsdale, New York. Patrons enjoyed fine and leisurely dining, became relaxed, loving and appreciative and fell in love with a painting or two. With no pressure they were often added to the dinner tab. There was the department store Dress Buyer who bought a painting right off the wall that was hanging in a manufacturer's showroom and on and on. These are only examples of course. There are many other stories and certainly we all share them. An Artist or Writer can set up a book signing and display of art at a local bookstore, restaurant, coffee shop, hotel, park, zoo, or other unusual venues.

Other venues offer an opportunity for the art to remain long after the event. I have had Art displayed in films, on the sets of plays and that sold. Why? Because the work lingered, the viewer could take their time looking, which is something few do these days, take the time to really look, (which is another subject.) Buyers fall in love with art and want to own it if given the opportunity to experience the art. Or they want to read the whole book after reading an excerpt, in their own time. I have had collectors contact me to buy art after seeing my portrait of Elizabeth Taylor when it was presented on stage at the Little Foxes. A producer commissioned me to paint a portrait of Martha Raye as a result, and it too was presented on stage. There were many servicemen in that audience who later became some of my biggest and best collectors.

What is it that creators really do after all? We dare to dream and attempt to create a tangible reality of our dreams. Our mediums are diverse. Now here is a mystical aspect to the business of making art; how often do the dreams actually materialize? I have so many instances sometimes I simply revel in the power artistic abilities can achieve through visualization.

The Baron Conservancy is a dream come true, the fitting conclusion to a lifetime of being an artist. The opportunity to make a final statement as old as the history of wo/mankind on earth - as ancient as handprints blown onto walls: I was here, I exist, I dream, I manifest my dreams. See what I have made.

The annual Art and Human Nature Collection Literary and Art books will serve as a record of our journey from New York City to the acreage in Wonder Valley that is dedicated to the preservation of Art, Desert and Human Nature.

Art has provided the fullest life possible and enabled me to find a place to make and leave my own creations and that I cherish. It has enabled me to fill canvas after canvas and book after book. We look forward to physical celebrations and events shared with an international group of like minded individuals. You have created your works. It is our hope you will accept our invitation to join us on this exciting artistic journey.

Along the pathways we hope to save some desert land and a few endangered animal species: the desert tortoise, the desert (kangaroo) rat and a few artists and writers.

If you would like to be a part of it please join us at www.barongallery.com

I’m not much for discussing theories and ideas on this forum, I prefer the Doers and reading about their struggle to make their work visible and accepted. Theories and ideas only gain true relevance when backed by the results of praxis. This seems to be a Doer’s blog and comes full of sound advice. Thank you Hyacinthe.

This time, Hyacinthe, you wrote a good one. I feel distressed when I've seen you in the past refering to your knowing a grand figure who has emparted to you a part of their secret knowledge, because it makes you seem like an acorn trying to grow in the shadow of a giant oak tree. Here, you're standing completely on your own, free to spread your branches over everything around you, and prosper in the unencumbered sunlight you deserve. I've seen your work, and it certainly does stand well on its own. The project sounds exciting, and well worth being a part of. Brava!
