02/27/2005: "NatuurkunstDrenthe"

‘NatureArtDrenthe’ is a concept to establish a permanent location for art-in-nature in the Netherlands. The concept is developed by myself because of the success of two earlier projects in this same province Drenthe. This province is situated in the northern part of Holland and is very well known for its ‘quiet and space’ but also for the prehistoric stone monument (‘hunebeds’) and for the former peatlands. So many people are coming to Drenthe for holidays, hiking and biking.

The two earlier art-in-nature projects invited international artists to come down to the site and work there for 14 days to realise there nature related, site specific art works. The first one in 2000 was in National Park Dwingelderveld with about 1.4 million visitors a year. The second project was in 2003 near the openairmuseum ‘Veenpark, the world of peat’. This show was called Peatpolis and the artist were working with peat as mayor material. In this case many of the visitiors of the museum (about 90.000) visited also the show. The website www.peatpolis.nl is still in the air. Both of this project took important guest so was the Dutch queen Beatrix visiting in 2000 riding on her horse. In 2003 she was the one who did the official opening ceremony.

So I was very happy with this all and thought we need a permanent place for art-in-nature. In this case the first permanent location in the Netherlands. I talked with many people in my region. Politicians, businessmen, art organisers, people from the state forrestery and also with the staff of the open-air-museum Ellert&Brammert. This museum is showing historical houses and things like that in a small village (Schoonoord) in the middle of the province. It is called Ellert&Brammert because of a legend of two giants living there in the old days.

Everybody is enthusiast about the idea and so I hope we can have the first show this year. Planning is to start in June. In the this year with artsist from Europe only, but if we succed we will make it global. On the same way we did in 2000 and 2003. The project will be managed and curated by myself and also by a new foundation. Of course the name Global Art Fund will be the name I use for the international contacts like I did before.

BACKING. Because of the importance of art-in-nature internationally and the many artists involved it should be very nice to have the meaning of artsist, curators and other interested people about this idea. Please send a mail( defluiter@planet.nl) and let me know what you are thinking about it. Later I will send everybody information about location, deadlines etcetera.

For images about former projects visit www.defluiter.nl click globalartfund.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Vvoitek,
Thanks for your friendly comment. On the moment we are struggling for the money. I have good thoughts about succes, but you never know. In the mean time we start a new foundation to establish the programm for the coming years. This year 2005, only European artists in case of the money, but when we succeed to do many more years of course it will be global. I was working myself in many different countries and so I know in almost every country in the world artist are working in this field and mostly there are also organisations dealing with it.
So thanks for your message again. To support this idea it would be nice to send an email to mr. Henk Everts (City of Coevorden) heverts@coevorden.nl and give your opinion. Mr . Everts is a very enthusiast art promoter inside the city government.
Best wishes,
Adri
